In Ghana according to statics 41% of all fire related incidents are from the domestic household which makes up the biggest sector of fire damages in the Ghanaian economy. Since most individual households can be argued as not being high profile buildings, little is reported about such fires in the media, but of cause when places like the old parliament house and market fires occur we all get to hear about it. No one is safe not even the Ex- President who’s house burnt down; not your family, neighbour, relatives or friends and acquaintance when it comes to fire incidents.

The impact of fire related incidents in the domestic sector would not financially be substantial compared to that of  commercial buildings, however to the individual who’s house burns down, it is, since it represents his/her physical life achievement, his/her biggest investment followed by a car, it stands as the family home with many memorabilia’s (e.g pictures, old clothes, old toys) and memories created over the years. Financially and emotionally fire accidents in the home becomes a huge burden to carry, as a scar that never heals.

Fire incidents are accidents that do happen, and as with accidents some are preventable but others are unavoidable, the most dangerous part of a fire incident in the house hold is the time that it may occur, thus when the house hold are asleep or are out of the house; through electrical faults or someone forgetting to turn the gas off, trigging a fire incident. If it happens in the middle of the night the house hold would likely be asleep, it is known that in fire related fatalities largely it is the inhaling of dangerous smoke from the fire that is to be blamed as it incapacitates the individual and chokes them long before the actual fire gets to them.

A Proactive Response

What Dey-Innovations Ltd is introducing to the house hold is a proactive control measure to allow for a good response time to react and to increase the salvage value recovered, through an early warning system installation shown in the picture above (PG1), the package when installed allows early reaction to fight the fire if it is safe to do so, or to call the fire service.

A package is installed into the house hold electrical wiring at 230V and with replaceable alkaline battery back-up, the whole package cost less than a fraction of the average value of a home but serves as the only investment that would help maintain the value of the house, property and life allowing for quick response.
